Michael H. Heuer, Ph.D.

Chaplain, Colonel, USAF (Retired)

Dr. Michael H. Heuer, a native of New York State, has dedicated himself to helping others and making a positive difference in the world. To equip him for this task, he has an extensive educational background, having earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Master of Education degree in Counseling Psychology, the Master of Military Operational Art and Science degree, and the Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Religion. 

Dr. Heuer served as a United States Air Force chaplain for 33 years, caring for military members and their families around the world. Before retiring from active duty as a Colonel in January 2018, he worked on the special staff of two four-star combatant commanders (a General and an Admiral) and received the Defense Superior Service Medal signed by then-Secretary of Defense James Mattis, which is only awarded to senior military officers who make significant contributions across the Department of Defense. 

After military retirement, Dr. Heuer continued his work equipping people for life as an independent contractor offering services as “MH Life Consulting.” With the skill of a scholar who explains important life-changing concepts in simple language, Dr. Heuer is a popular, often-requested speaker and writer, having been much in demand both during and following his active duty USAF career. He has authored articles published in a scholarly journal and various magazines and is in great demand as a trainer, presenter, and public speaker. He has served either as a faculty member or adjunct instructor at several graduate schools and colleges, including the University of Maryland and the United States Air Force Chaplain Corps College. He is a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a trainer for two LivingWorks Education suicide prevention programs as a Training-for-Trainers (T4T) Coach in the safeTALK suicide alertness program and a Registered Trainer in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). He is currently the Vice President of the Military Chaplains Association of the United States, which represents Armed Forces chaplains and Federal civilian chaplains at the national level. As a senior leader of the Military Chaplains Association, Dr. Heuer represents his organization as a member of The Military Coalition and the Veterans Day National Committee. He also serves as a chaplain endorser, providing a liaison between denominational chaplains and the Department of Defense. 

Dr. Heuer’s accomplishments received recognition in 2024 by his listing in “Who’s Who in America” and as a Marquis Who’s Who “Top Military Professional.” He has two adult sons, a daughter-in-law and one grandson and lives in the Washington, DC area.
